SAXOPHONE SUMMIT
Feat. DAVE LIEBMAN, JOE LOVANO, GREG OSBY, PHIL MARKOWITZ, CECIL McBEE & BILLY HART
Dave Liebman  sax soprano & tenor / soprano & tenor sax
Joe Lovano  tenor sax, clarinete / tenor sax, clarinet
Greg Osby  sax alto / alto sax
Phil Markowitz  piano
Cecil McBee  contrabaixo / double bass
Billy Hart  bateria / drums

Born out of a celebration of the musical spirit – and “spiritual” music – of the great John Coltrane, the Saxophone Summit’s front line is made of three of the most revered and eloquent sax players in jazz: soprano expert Dave Liebman, tenorist Joe Lovano, and altoist Greg Osby, who, succeeding Michael Brecker and Ravi Coltrane, recently joined the group.

The rhythm section is a tremendously powerful and finely oiled musical engine consisting of three highly experienced and like-minded musicians, whose action never seems to betray their age: the bassist Cecil McBee (82 years old), the drummer Billy Hart (77), and the “young” pianist Phil Markowitz (65).

Saxophone Summit is more than a cutting contest or saxophone battle. It has become a multi-faceted musical equation greater than the sum of its parts.
