RUDY ROYSTON OriOn triO
Jon Irabagon  sax tenor & soprano / tenor & soprano sax
Yasushi Nakamura  contrabaixo / double bass
Rudy Royston  bateria / drums

A native of Forth Worth, Texas, raised in Denver, Colorado, Rudy Royston moved to New York a decade ago, and soon drew well deserved praise as one of the most accomplished drummers in contemporary jazz, both as sideman and leader.

Royston joined the top 3 in the Rising Star Drums category in the 2013 DownBeat Critics Poll, topping it the next year. Following his much acclaimed debut album – “303” –, Rudy Royston formed his OriOn triO with two of his “303” bandmates: Jon Irabagon, one of the greatest saxophone virtuosos of our time, winner of the Thelonious Monk International Sax Competition in 2008, #1 Rising Star Alto Saxophone and #1 Rising Star Tenor Saxophone in the DownBeat Critics Poll in 2011 and 2013, and the bassist Yasushi Nakamura, a musician who has quickly caught the attention of jazz lovers and critics as a sideman to Hank Jones, Wynton Marsalis, Frank Kimbrough, Dave Douglas or Clarence Penn.

In a way, he is to JD (Allen) what Elvin was to Coltrane. High praise indeed, but richly deserved.
