Ricardo Toscano's quartet is one of the greatest forces in Portuguese jazz today. Although the jazz they play the most is not exactly that of today, the jazz tradition of John Coltrane, Cannonball Adderley, Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock or Wayne Shorter could hardly be better represented among us than by these four young masters of the vocabulary. of jazz. The success of the formula seems to reside in the belief of Ricardo Toscano, João Pedro Coelho, Romeu Tristão and João Pereira that, if made with so much love and in such a genuine way, this music can be played today without ever sounding like a museum, as many times as come in handy. And fortunately, one of the times when this comes in handy is exactly when the concerts on the main stage of the Funchal Jazz Festival 2018 are opened: July 12, at 21:30.

Ricardo Toscano Quarteto is one of the brightest forces in today's jazz scene in Portugal. Even if most of the jazz the quartet play is not always exactly of “today”, the jazz tradition of John Coltrane, Cannonball Adderley, Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock or Wayne Shorter could hardly have found a better representative among us than these four young masters of the jazz vocabulary. The success of their formula seems to lie on the fact that Ricardo Toscano, João Pedro Coelho, Romeu Tristão and João Pereira do believe that, if made with so much love and in such an authentic, genuine way, this music can be played today, again and again, never sounding like “museum music”. That's exactly what we shall expect of their concert of Funchal Jazz 2018, on July 12, at 09:30 pm._cc781905-5cde-3194 -bb3b-136bad5cf58d_
