Having won around three dozen national and international awards since 2000, João Barradas won no less than two trophies in the “Made in New York Jazz Competition” (in the “Solo Instrumental Category” and “All Categories”) in 2015. . In 2016, Barradas won the Young Musicians Award / Antena 2 com with his group 'Home', with which he recorded his second album. In 2017, he was elected, with absolute unanimity, “Breakthrough Musician of the Year” by the RTP / Jazz Festival Award. On the JazzLogical website, he was recognized simultaneously as the best “National Musician” and as “National Revelation Musician” of 2017.

João Barradas presents his new project in Funchal Jazz – 'Portrait' –, in which he is accompanied by a band , with a Dutch saxophonist, a French vibraphonist, an Italian bass player and a Spanish drummer, illustrates very well the international and unifying character of this musical language that is jazz.

João Barradas is the brightest shining new star on the Portuguese jazz scene, as much for his mastery of the accordion as for the new language he has created on such a rare instrument in jazz. Barradas won three dozen national and international awards since 2000, won the 1st prize on both Solo Instrumental Category and All Categories at the Made In New York Jazz Competition, and was the winner of Prêmio Jovens Músicos / Antena 2 in 2016.  In 2017, he was repeatedly elected “Musician Revelation of the Year” by the jury of Prêmio RTP / Festa do Jazz, after which he was simultaneously recognized as “National Musican” and “National Musician – Revelation” by the Critics Poll for the JazzLogical website.

Barradas is to be seen and heard at Funchal Jazz 2019 with his new project – 'Portrait' –, with a band made of musicians from Holland, France, Italy, and Spain, a most perfect illustration of the international and unifying character of this musical language we call jazz.
