Christian Sands is a Steinway artist

Although he only emerged in the 1990s, Christian McBride already built a discography as a sideman - we speak of 315 albums in all - comparable to those of other giants of the instrument, such as Ray Brown or Paul Chambers. It is in this capacity that he has worked with such renowned jazz musicians as Freddie Hubbard, Sonny Rollins, Milt Jackson, JJ Johnson, Roy Haynes, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Pat Metheny or his own masters, Ray Brown and Milt Hinton.

His enormous activity as a sideman did not prevent him from developing a relevant career as a leader, a quality in which he currently has 12 albums published, either with his electric group, or with his acoustic quintet, or with his big band, for whose album “The Good Feeling” won the last of the 3 Grammy® awards he has been awarded to date.

It is for all this work and for his exceptional qualities as a virtuoso instrumentalist that Christian McBride has become, in a very prominent way, the most awarded double bass player today, having, in addition to the 3 aforementioned Grammy®, won only in the last few years (2010- 2014), 6 first in the DownBeat critics' polls, 3 in the JazzTimes and 5 in the Jazz Journalists Association.

Christian McBride has created a new acoustic trio, with which he recently recorded the album “Out Here” and with which   will open, with Christian Sands on piano and Jerome Jennings on drums, _cc781905-5cde-3194- bb3b-136bad5cf58d_a last night of concerts, on the 4th of July, on the main stage of the Funchal Jazz Festival 2015.
